Why Mansley Scientific exists

A teal branded card reading: The right expertise. At the right time. Without the overhead. Mansley Scientific.

When your science-led software company is growing, you inevitably hit a wall where you simply run out of time to handle sales in addition to running the business, long before you’ve built a reliable system to take over.

The science is proven, and the customer base is growing. But the pipeline is inconsistent, every product demo is done differently, the customer relationships are managed reactively, and the go-to-market (GTM) strategy exists mostly in the founder’s head.

What you need is a senior commercial leader with deep life sciences domain expertise who understands both complex scientific workflows and how to scale a software business. What you can rarely justify at this stage is a full-time executive-level hire.

That is the gap Mansley Scientific was built to close.

What 25 years looks like

I have spent 25 years working at the intersection of science and software as an application scientist, commercial lead, customer success director, and strategic advisor.

I have worked with computational chemists, medicinal chemists, DMPK scientists, and research informatics teams across pharma and biotech. Because of that, I understand how scientists evaluate software, how they build trust in a technical tool, and what drives adoption.

I have done the hands-on work, running technical demos, structuring complex product evaluations, and building customer success programs. But I also handle the broader commercial functions, such as developing partnerships, writing technical marketing content, and coaching commercial teams to open doors where scientific credibility and relationships matter.

What this looks like in practice

Mansley Scientific provides fractional leadership for small and early-stage life science software companies that need senior commercial capability without a full-time hire.

The work is deliberately varied because no two organisations face the same bottleneck. For one company, that means refining their GTM strategy and validating it against market data. For another, it means rebuilding their demo process, structured around scientific discovery and value-first delivery. And for a third, it means opening doors in a new market where they lack established relationships.

Sometimes the engagement is strategic. Sometimes it is hands-on execution. Often it is both.

What is consistent is the combination of capabilities it draws on: scientific credibility, commercial experience, and a clear understanding of how science-led software businesses operate when the foundations are being laid.

Why fractional

A senior commercial hire with deep scientific fluency and 25 years of industry experience is expensive. At the stage most of my clients are at, that hire would consume a budget that should be going toward product development, pipeline building, and customer success.

Fractional leadership gives you access to that experience at the level of commitment that fits your current stage. You get the strategic thinking, industry network, and commercial range without the overhead of a full-time salary and benefits.

Like any new partnership, there is a ramp-up period. I need to understand your specific software and customer base before I can be fully effective. But because I already understand the life sciences industry and the commercial patterns that matter in this space, that ramp is measured in weeks, not months.

It isn’t a compromise. It is the right structure for where you are today.

Who this is for

Mansley Scientific works best if you are a founder or commercial leader who has hit a ceiling you can’t break through with the resources currently inside your business.

The ceiling varies by company, but the core frustrations are the same:

  • The Adoption Gap: It could be a product that scientists respect but struggle to adopt.

  • Network Limits: Your pipeline depends too heavily on your personal network.

  • Fluency Gaps: Your commercial team lacks the deep scientific fluency required to close deals in this market.

  • A Credibility Barrier: You are entering a new territory or vertical that requires immediate technical credibility.

If any of that sounds familiar, it is worth a conversation.
